about us
Community Cares was formed at the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. When schools went remote in March 2020, we realized there were going to be families who needed some extra support. Our Facebook group because a vital hub to connect people who needed help with community members willing to help. One of our first requests was toilet paper for a family who was all sick with Covid. As the pandemic progressed, so did our focus. We partnered with the school district to deliver breakfast and lunch to families who weren't able to pick it up. Our army of volunteers delivered 30,000 meals to SD308 students between April and August in 2020.
Since then, we have developed an ongoing partnership with school social workers to provide ad-hoc assistance to families in crisis. We have also added three recurring projects to our portfolio of services: Start Strong Back-to-School program, The Holiday Project, and a monthly Cares Closet at the food pantry.
